Once a specific trigger or need has a name, it stops looking like an overreaction and starts looking like information. A child who melts down every time the classroom does a fire drill isn’t being dramatic about a loud noise — the noise is registering at a different intensity for them than for their classmates. Tracking which environments, textures, or sounds cause the most trouble over a couple of weeks often reveals a pattern that wasn’t obvious in the moment, and that pattern is genuinely useful to bring to a teacher, occupational therapist, or the person themselves if they’re old enough to weigh in.
